Advocating for Better Representation of Multigenerational Homes

Advocating for Better Representation of Multigenerational Homes

These days, my household includes my two kids half-time and my 74-year-old mother, all living under one roof. Most days, my 74-year-old father (they split up when I was 5) is over as he also lives in town. To say there are a ton of logistics to sort through, as well as unending hilarity and shenanigans most days, is an understatement.

As such, I understand firsthand the complexities of living in and managing a multi-generational household. It isn’t easy, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I love seeing the interactions between my kids and my parents: the eye rolls when my parents say things that my kids realize is from a different perspective (and certainly a different time), or the ways my parents learn about all that is new and hip from my teenage kids — even if they don’t understand it all.

Living this way has helped me understand the importance of representation for multi-generational homes and aging demographics in the US. We all benefit from the arrangement, and it is a shame that we don’t have more households in this country set up similarly. However, I understand that my ability to juggle it all is only possible because both of my parents can care for themselves. When that changes, I will need more help.

That’s why I am incredibly proud that Firefly Partners led the redesign of the Caring Across Generations website, a nonprofit dedicated to advocating for caregivers and aging demographics. The importance of their work cannot be overstated. They work tirelessly to champion policies that support caregivers and care recipients alike. Whether it’s advocating for paid family leave, expanding access to affordable healthcare, or promoting fair wages for caregivers, Caring Across is at the forefront of driving meaningful change around an issue that’s quickly becoming a priority for most families.

Advocacy is only effective if it reaches the intended audience. With a user-friendly and engaging website, Caring Across can amplify their message and reach more people. From intuitive navigation to compelling storytelling, every aspect of the website redesign was carefully crafted to enhance the user experience and inspire visitors to join the movement for change. By making information more accessible and actionable, Caring Across is mobilizing caregivers and care recipients to drive real impact.

As a mom, a daughter, and Firefly’s founder, I couldn’t be more honored to play a part in elevating Caring Across Generations and their important work with this new website. Together, we’re working towards a future where caregiving is valued, supported, and celebrated.
